Hannah & James | The Boathouse | Norfolk Wedding

Hannah & James | The Boathouse | Norfolk Wedding

“Jo they are amazing! We are so chuffed with everything, thank you”

Hannah & James are so in love, you just need to see the way they look into eachothers eyes. Such a perfectly matched couple, hence their friends call them ‘Janna’.

I met up with the girls, all getting ready at the beautiful, Peninsula Cottages, right on the norfolk broads in Wroxham. It was a real hubub of excitement as everything came together. Hair and makeup complete, everyone looking fantastic.

We then headed to James’s family home to put her dress on. It was a beautiful backless design by Ronald Joyce from Pure Brides. Finally Hannah was ready to marry her best friend. Emotions ran high, especially when Hannah’s dad saw her in the dress for the first time. With all the little details in place, Hannah rode in a vintage Rolls Royce to nearby Wroxham church.

Joined by their friends and loved ones, Hannah & James made their vows. Rev Liz Jump has to be the most relaxed vicar I’ve ever met. With her calm humor, she brought laughter to the ceremony, thus calming the nerves.

After some time outside the church for confetti throwing and a few photos, we made the journey to the reception venue as the heavens opened. We arrived at The Boathouse, Ormesby Broad, to beautiful warm sunshine. Then we awaited the newlyweds arrival by river boat.

I worked alongside a great two man film crew and their drone to capture the evening as it unfurled. Bubbles flowing and then it was time for the speeches. More tears and laughter as stories were told. There was also some singing involved. Good job there was a loo roll to hand and James had his cuddly bunny for reassurance!

As the sun set over the broad, there was time to reflect on a truly memorable day. Thanks to hannah & James for asking me to be part of it.

Wedding Flowers

Wedding Flowers

My Season Favourites

The nights are starting to draw in and the chill of Autumn is in the air. I am coming to the end of another fantastic wedding season.  To bring back the memories of summer, I thought I should re visit my favourite Wedding Flowers of the 2015 wedding season. Planning a wedding takes months, sometimes years. Plenty of thought is given to the big things like the venue and the dress, but also, just as important, are the little things, the details, THE FLOWERS! As a wedding photographer, the details are a great part of the story of the day, and when it comes to designing a beautiful wedding album, the details are what brings it all together.

I am a girly girl when it comes to the little details, I really love the individuality that they bring to each wedding. A huge part of this is the Wedding Flowers, be it the table centre pieces or the church decorations, every detail matters. This season I have seen some fantastic Wedding Flowers. From rainbows of wild flowers to sweet smelling bouquets, i’ve really have seen some beautiful creations.

I wanted to share with you a selection of my most loved bridal arrangements. I am sure you will agree, they are breath taking. I hope this blog gives you some inspiration for your 2016 wedding plans. I am taking bookings now for 2016/17, so please get in touch to chat about your wedding photography. I look forward to hearing what your flowers and details will be too.

My style of photography is very unobtrusive, I work in a relaxed and contemporary way. My photographs are reportage style and nothing too formal. I believe it is important to let the day happen naturally and be there to capture those special moments as they unfold.

Wedding Photography | Norfolk {Matthew & Gulnoor}

This weekend I shot the wedding of Matthew and Gulnoor. It was a beautiful sunny day, and Matt & Gulnoor chose to marry later on in the evening, so the light for photography was amazing. Gulnoor got ready for her big day at Barnham Broom Hotel. It was a hubub of excitement when I arrived. Hair and makeup well under way. With all 4 bridesmaids, mum and the bride, all in the same room, it was all very cozy.

As Gulnoor’s mum buttoned up the dress and put the veil into place, the emotions ran high and the nerves started to kick in. A few tears were shed, but soon enough, the fizz was flowing and the mood changed to excitement. We headed outside to the waiting cars. One quick photoshoot, and I was off to the church.

The ceremony took place at St Nicholas Church, Dereham. I see many beautiful churches in this job, this one was no exception.  After the heartwarming ceremony, it was just a short drive to their reception Venue, Matthew’s parents house, Hurley Lodge. I was here only a few days ago shooting the engagement photos. Lots of hard work had obviously gone into making the marquee and garden look as fantastic as it did.

The flowers and details were simply perfect, with a hint of cornflower blue throughout. Wild flowers in jars everywhere and plenty of references to Matt and Gulnoors life in London. After the speeches and food, it was time to party into the night, everyone did just that.

Hurley Lodge

Engagement Photography|Norfolk {Matthew & Gulnoor}  It had been a very hot day in Norfolk, but as early evening approached, it was starting to cool down nicely and the light was stunning. I met with London based students, Matt & Gulnoor, for their photo shoot, at Matt’s parents house in Dereham. Hurley Lodge is hidden down a country lane, nestled between rolling crops. A perfect location for their engagement shoot.

We took a nice walk around the extensive grounds, through the apple trees and the wild flowers. Then we wandered down the lane, to play in the corn fields. It was all great fun, until Matt was chased by a horsefly…his constant running away was comical.

We escaped the biting bugs and headed back to the Lodge for some sunset shots. As we waited for the perfect light, I spotted the sports car. Matt and his dad’s pride and joy. The boys built it themselves, it seemed only right we should use it for the shoot. Bright red and very fast, off matt and his fiancee Gulnoor sped, down the lane and out of sight. Upon their return, Matt turned to me and said, “your turn” and he took me for a spin too…wow, it was so much fun.

We arrived back at just the right moment, in perfect time, to capture the sun, as it set over an amazing shoot. I look forward to returning to Dereham and Hurley Lodge for the wedding.

An engagement shoot may seem like a luxury, but in my mind, it’s an essential. I am aware that some people don’t like having their photo taken, me included.  After a bit of time together, in front of the camera, people soon relax and actually start to have fun with it! When it comes to the wedding day itself, the photography side of things becomes the last thing you need to be nervous about.

Family Photo Shoot Plantation Gardens Norwich

Family Photo Shoot

Plantation Gardens Norwich

The journey continues and once again, I get to work with Emily and her beautiful little family. Emily and Lee had been together many years, but, as it does, life has had its ups and downs. Thankfully this lovely couple have found each other again. Lee’s little boy, Joe, and his half sister, Poppy, are totally inseparable.

The fun and games started with a walk through Norwich. We were headed to one of the city’s well hidden secrets. We went to the Plantation Gardens, a truly mysterious spot concealed in the centre of town. Living in Norfolk is perfect for photography locations. Close enough to the coast for a beach shoot, or maybe a wander round one of our beautiful country houses. Close by is Blickling Hall, such a fantastic shoot location.

In the beginning there were a few tears, but soon enough, they were replaced with laughter, as Joe and Poppy blew bubbles into my lens. Blessed once again with clear blue skies, the shoot was so much fun. The Gardens offer so many hidden areas to discover, including a zig zag staircase to climb and its beautiful pond. A wonderful playground for children and adults alike.

I am such a lucky girl to call this my job. I think working with children is very special, and I really do enjoy what I do. If you like my photographs below and would like to book a shoot, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hacienda San Jose Mijas Costa Spain | Jamie and Claire

Hacienda San Jose Mijas Costa Spain | Jamie and Claire

It was way back last year, when I met with Jamie and Claire, to talk about their exciting wedding plans. I cooked us all dinner, and as we ate, they filled me in on all the details of their dream wedding.  It was to be in the  luxury Hacienda San Jose Mijas Costa Spain. I was thrilled to be their chosen photographer. After the excitement of shooting Paul and Jo’s wedding in Portofino, Italy. It felt good to be planning another destination wedding in the sun.

The countdown to the wedding flew by and before long it was time to make my way to Spain. It was a very early start as I drove through a misty  September sunrise. Although I was loaded down with heavy bags of camera equipment, I still had a spring in my step, happy to be jetting off to the Spanish sunshine.

Driving from the airport, on the ‘wrong’ side of the road, is never an enjoyable experience. but. It was soon forgotten as I sipped a cold beer on the beach, accompanied by the entire wedding party. We ate tapas, chatted and got to know each other, as the sun set over the tranquil sea, illuminating the sky with  a multitude of pinks and purples.

I jumped out of bed nice and early to super warm sunshine. Perfect day for a wedding. As I travelled up into the mountains towards Mijas, little wispy white clouds drifted in. A photographers dream. Up and up we went, then I saw it, Hacienda San Jose.  At the top of a winding driveway,  lined with tall cypress trees, there sits the gleaming white villa. It’s tower dominating the skyline. I couldn’t wait to explore.

After a big breakfast by the private pool, I got to work. The place was buzzing with activity. Room after room of people preening and preparing for the best day ever. Claire and Jamie had thought of everything and the preparations ran like clockwork. I watched the garden transform in front of my eyes. Claires vision for her dream wedding had become reality.

The bridesmaids looked beautiful in their natural dusky pink dresses as they helped Claire into her dress. There were tears as Claire’s mum, Sue, fastened the buttons. Such an elegant lace dress. The open back was perfectly suited to such a sleek woman as Claire. Bridesmaid Chloe handed Claire her bouquet of roses and they were set to go. Dad arrived to walk his beautiful daughter through the Hacienda and into the garden. He looked like the proudest man on earth.

Waiting at the altar in the warm late afternoon sun, Jamie looked smooth in his pale blue linen suit. Still making jokes and laughing as he awaited his bride. Preceded by bridesmaids and flower girls and their handfuls of fresh flowers, Claire arrived, a vision of perfection. Her smile beamed as she took in the beauty of the garden and its transformation. Sheer excitement to see Jamie and marry the man she loves.

The ceremony was highly emotional as Jamie and Claire read their hand written vows to each other. I don’t think anyone held back the tears, as they spoke from the heart. Then came the turn of the flower girls. Each had a few words to read, both were overcome with emotion and there were too many tears to talk. A loving hug from the bride and groom helped them through, although this soppy old photographer had to pause to wipe her eyes!

A traditional custom in Spanish weddings is the giving of coins. After the blessing, the 13 coins are given by the groom to his new wife to symbolise his willingness to support her and trust in her. The bride accepting them signifies her willingness to trust him and be prudent.

After the ceremony, everyone made their way up to the lawn. Homemade cocktails were being served in old jam jars. Looking out over the distant mountains, feeling a slight breeze, this was the perfect way to cool down in the warm sun. The (not so formal) formal photographs took place then it was time for the long awaited speeches. They were hilarious!

After some amazing food, as the golden hour approached, I took Jamie and Claire off  for some photos in the Hacienda and its surrounding gardens.

Birthday Cake Smash Waterloo Park Norwich

Birthday Cake Smash

George enjoyed his first birthday cake smash at Waterloo park, Norwich

It was a busy week for Joanna Killingworth Photography. Just before jetting off to Spain to shoot a wedding, I got to spend a few hours with this little chap, George, for his  Birthday Cake smash photo shoot.

Quite a few months ago, I first spoke to Georges mum Sarah, she introduced the idea of a cake smash shoot for her sons first birthday, a first for me. So I did a bit of research and came up with a few ideas. Never did I imagine the scene, as I arrived at Waterloo Park, Norwich, on the afternoon of the shoot. There stood Sarah and husband Luke with balloons and pom poms and a big red chair. I love it when a client embraces the shoot. George was happily bashing his balloons.

George was a perfect model. He smiled and played whilst we got  to know each other. As I snapped away, we decided it was time to bring on the cake. Big, blue and gooey it was too! Irresistible right? Well George was wary of such a thing and not sure if he should touch it, so gently, gently was the way to go. Finger after finger of blue icing being licked away. It wasn’t too long before, with help from the grown ups, George was munching fist fulls of delicious sponge cake and white chocolate.

After a little clean up, George joined mum and dad for some tickles and cuddles. I hope you like the photos. You were all brilliant Sarah, Luke and George.

I am offering family lifestyle shoots in Oct 2014 for the reduced price of £150 (a saving of £45) For further information go to www.facebook.com/joannakillingworthphotography this  October. No hidden costs, all images on USB with permission to print.

Early Autumn Walk Mousehold Norwich Norfolk

A few relaxing hours spent walking in the warm sun on Mousehold Heath Norwich. Our Early Autumn walk.

People keep telling me summer is over. I am not ready to say goodbye to the warm sun on my face just yet.

It was such a beautiful, warm day, so I decided to go with my daughter for a walk in the local woods, Mousehold Heath. It was so relaxing walking together and spotting the early signs of autumn starting to emerge.

The sun streamed through the trees as we wandered down the winding pathways. The woodland floor was lined with orange leaves. Every twist and turn presented us with yet another clue that Autumn is well on the way.

We were bathed in such beautiful light for this early autumn walk, stopping occasionally to take photos and look closer at the delights this tranquil spot presented us with. We are so lucky to live in such a stunning and diverse part of the world.

I am going to make it my mission to take at least a day a month out of my hectic life just to absorb nature at its best as the seasons change. If you find you have some time to go on a mini adventure, why not visit Norfolk . How about a day at Felbrigg Hall or even a brisk walk by the sea at Cromer.

As a professional photographer, my work takes me to some stunning locations, both here in the uk and further afield. Are you looking for a fun, relaxed family photo shoot in your favourite part of the world? If so please get in touch and book me to spend a few hours creating some wonderful images for you to treasure. For a lifestyle shoot with me it costs £195 which includes all images on usb and permission to print.  For further information on lifestyle shoots and the services I provide please email me at jo@affinityimages.co.uk  www.affinityimages.co.uk

Lifestyle Photo Shoot with Poppy

Lifestyle Photo Shoot With Poppy Eaton Park Norwich

A Lifestyle photo shoot with Poppy.

Eaton Park in Norwich is a real gem of a shoot location. I visit this place pretty often. I shoot lots of engagement shoots here, but also do the Norwich 5k park run here regularly too. Come rain, shine or snow, there is always a good angle for a great photograph.

This visit was a little bit different. We had to be very sneaky about It. Poppy’s mum Emily, a close friend, has a birthday coming up. This shoot was a surprise. I was worried she would spill the beans, but Poppy is such a little angel and really good at keeping a secret.

It was such a perfect shoot, running around the park and picking wild flowers. Blessed with perfect light as the golden evening sunshine warmed our skin. I also had the help of my two children, Ella 10 and Jak 9. They are experts at making Poppy giggle. Maybe I should have them with me at every shoot? Or not.

I really enjoy working with children, they always touch my heart with their willingness to get involved. Poppy knows me very well, I have photographed her lots before. The first shoot was when she was only a tiny baby. She is so much fun to be around and always ready for a cuddle. Although I may be a bit biased as she is malso my goddaughter.

I love to work outside with natural light. Tonight did not disappoint with the most beautiful golden hour as the sun set. I couldn’t have asked for more. The city of Norwich sure is a fine city. Time went very fast as usual, and before I knew it, the shoot was complete and it was time to head home. I rewarded my helpers with fish and chips as a special treat…yum.

I hope you like the photographs. if you would like a shoot of your own, i’d love to hear from you.

Isobels Newborn Photo Shoot

Beautiful baby Isobel has arrived, and what a cutie pie she is.

At only 5 days old, she was such a sleepy head. We had plenty of kisses and cuddles, and like any girlie, lots of outfit changes.

Proud parents Sean and Jenny, who’s wedding I photographed back in June 2010, couldn’t be more relaxed. Jen even produced a tin of homemade apple flapjacks for us to munch. It’s such a hard life hey?

I created my mini studio set up in the warmth of Jens bedroom. The scene was set and I began to snap away, Isobel was such a good girl. If she made a sound big brother William, was straight into the room, checking his new sister was okay. I have also had the privilege of photographing this handsome chap when he was only a few weeks old.

Newborn photo shoots usually take me 3-4 hours, but the time really does fly. So after one last cup of tea, it was time for me to go and leave Isobel in peace. I really do love my job.

If you are due to have a baby soon and would like a newborn shoot, I would love to hear from you. Contact me here.

Heres a little taster of our newborn photo shoot together.
