Hannah & James | The Boathouse | Norfolk Wedding

Hannah & James | The Boathouse | Norfolk Wedding

“Jo they are amazing! We are so chuffed with everything, thank you”

Hannah & James are so in love, you just need to see the way they look into eachothers eyes. Such a perfectly matched couple, hence their friends call them ‘Janna’.

I met up with the girls, all getting ready at the beautiful, Peninsula Cottages, right on the norfolk broads in Wroxham. It was a real hubub of excitement as everything came together. Hair and makeup complete, everyone looking fantastic.

We then headed to James’s family home to put her dress on. It was a beautiful backless design by Ronald Joyce from Pure Brides. Finally Hannah was ready to marry her best friend. Emotions ran high, especially when Hannah’s dad saw her in the dress for the first time. With all the little details in place, Hannah rode in a vintage Rolls Royce to nearby Wroxham church.

Joined by their friends and loved ones, Hannah & James made their vows. Rev Liz Jump has to be the most relaxed vicar I’ve ever met. With her calm humor, she brought laughter to the ceremony, thus calming the nerves.

After some time outside the church for confetti throwing and a few photos, we made the journey to the reception venue as the heavens opened. We arrived at The Boathouse, Ormesby Broad, to beautiful warm sunshine. Then we awaited the newlyweds arrival by river boat.

I worked alongside a great two man film crew and their drone to capture the evening as it unfurled. Bubbles flowing and then it was time for the speeches. More tears and laughter as stories were told. There was also some singing involved. Good job there was a loo roll to hand and James had his cuddly bunny for reassurance!

As the sun set over the broad, there was time to reflect on a truly memorable day. Thanks to hannah & James for asking me to be part of it.

Wedding Flowers

Wedding Flowers

My Season Favourites

The nights are starting to draw in and the chill of Autumn is in the air. I am coming to the end of another fantastic wedding season.  To bring back the memories of summer, I thought I should re visit my favourite Wedding Flowers of the 2015 wedding season. Planning a wedding takes months, sometimes years. Plenty of thought is given to the big things like the venue and the dress, but also, just as important, are the little things, the details, THE FLOWERS! As a wedding photographer, the details are a great part of the story of the day, and when it comes to designing a beautiful wedding album, the details are what brings it all together.

I am a girly girl when it comes to the little details, I really love the individuality that they bring to each wedding. A huge part of this is the Wedding Flowers, be it the table centre pieces or the church decorations, every detail matters. This season I have seen some fantastic Wedding Flowers. From rainbows of wild flowers to sweet smelling bouquets, i’ve really have seen some beautiful creations.

I wanted to share with you a selection of my most loved bridal arrangements. I am sure you will agree, they are breath taking. I hope this blog gives you some inspiration for your 2016 wedding plans. I am taking bookings now for 2016/17, so please get in touch to chat about your wedding photography. I look forward to hearing what your flowers and details will be too.

My style of photography is very unobtrusive, I work in a relaxed and contemporary way. My photographs are reportage style and nothing too formal. I believe it is important to let the day happen naturally and be there to capture those special moments as they unfold.

Hurley Lodge Wedding

Wedding Photography | Norfolk {Matthew & Gulnoor}

This weekend I shot the wedding of Matthew and Gulnoor. It was a beautiful sunny day, and Matt & Gulnoor chose to marry later on in the evening, so the light for photography was amazing. Gulnoor got ready for her big day at Barnham Broom Hotel. It was a hubub of excitement when I arrived. Hair and makeup well under way. With all 4 bridesmaids, mum and the bride, all in the same room, it was all very cozy.

As Gulnoor’s mum buttoned up the dress and put the veil into place, the emotions ran high and the nerves started to kick in. A few tears were shed, but soon enough, the fizz was flowing and the mood changed to excitement. We headed outside to the waiting cars. One quick photoshoot, and I was off to the church.

The ceremony took place at St Nicholas Church, Dereham. I see many beautiful churches in this job, this one was no exception.  After the heartwarming ceremony, it was just a short drive to their reception Venue, Matthew’s parents house, Hurley Lodge. I was here only a few days ago shooting the engagement photos. Lots of hard work had obviously gone into making the marquee and garden look as fantastic as it did.

The flowers and details were simply perfect, with a hint of cornflower blue throughout. Wild flowers in jars everywhere and plenty of references to Matt and Gulnoors life in London. After the speeches and food, it was time to party into the night, everyone did just that.

Hacienda San Jose Mijas Costa Spain | Jamie and Claire

Hacienda San Jose Mijas Costa Spain | Jamie and Claire

It was way back last year, when I met with Jamie and Claire, to talk about their exciting wedding plans. I cooked us all dinner, and as we ate, they filled me in on all the details of their dream wedding.  It was to be in the  luxury Hacienda San Jose Mijas Costa Spain. I was thrilled to be their chosen photographer. After the excitement of shooting Paul and Jo’s wedding in Portofino, Italy. It felt good to be planning another destination wedding in the sun.

The countdown to the wedding flew by and before long it was time to make my way to Spain. It was a very early start as I drove through a misty  September sunrise. Although I was loaded down with heavy bags of camera equipment, I still had a spring in my step, happy to be jetting off to the Spanish sunshine.

Driving from the airport, on the ‘wrong’ side of the road, is never an enjoyable experience. but. It was soon forgotten as I sipped a cold beer on the beach, accompanied by the entire wedding party. We ate tapas, chatted and got to know each other, as the sun set over the tranquil sea, illuminating the sky with  a multitude of pinks and purples.

I jumped out of bed nice and early to super warm sunshine. Perfect day for a wedding. As I travelled up into the mountains towards Mijas, little wispy white clouds drifted in. A photographers dream. Up and up we went, then I saw it, Hacienda San Jose.  At the top of a winding driveway,  lined with tall cypress trees, there sits the gleaming white villa. It’s tower dominating the skyline. I couldn’t wait to explore.

After a big breakfast by the private pool, I got to work. The place was buzzing with activity. Room after room of people preening and preparing for the best day ever. Claire and Jamie had thought of everything and the preparations ran like clockwork. I watched the garden transform in front of my eyes. Claires vision for her dream wedding had become reality.

The bridesmaids looked beautiful in their natural dusky pink dresses as they helped Claire into her dress. There were tears as Claire’s mum, Sue, fastened the buttons. Such an elegant lace dress. The open back was perfectly suited to such a sleek woman as Claire. Bridesmaid Chloe handed Claire her bouquet of roses and they were set to go. Dad arrived to walk his beautiful daughter through the Hacienda and into the garden. He looked like the proudest man on earth.

Waiting at the altar in the warm late afternoon sun, Jamie looked smooth in his pale blue linen suit. Still making jokes and laughing as he awaited his bride. Preceded by bridesmaids and flower girls and their handfuls of fresh flowers, Claire arrived, a vision of perfection. Her smile beamed as she took in the beauty of the garden and its transformation. Sheer excitement to see Jamie and marry the man she loves.

The ceremony was highly emotional as Jamie and Claire read their hand written vows to each other. I don’t think anyone held back the tears, as they spoke from the heart. Then came the turn of the flower girls. Each had a few words to read, both were overcome with emotion and there were too many tears to talk. A loving hug from the bride and groom helped them through, although this soppy old photographer had to pause to wipe her eyes!

A traditional custom in Spanish weddings is the giving of coins. After the blessing, the 13 coins are given by the groom to his new wife to symbolise his willingness to support her and trust in her. The bride accepting them signifies her willingness to trust him and be prudent.

After the ceremony, everyone made their way up to the lawn. Homemade cocktails were being served in old jam jars. Looking out over the distant mountains, feeling a slight breeze, this was the perfect way to cool down in the warm sun. The (not so formal) formal photographs took place then it was time for the long awaited speeches. They were hilarious!

After some amazing food, as the golden hour approached, I took Jamie and Claire off  for some photos in the Hacienda and its surrounding gardens.

HELMINGHAM HALL WEDDING | SUFFOLK | LIZZIE & WILL

HELMINGHAM HALL WEDDING|SUFFOLK

31st August 2013

I first spoke to Lizzie about her fantastic Helmingham Hall wedding plans, last year. I was excited at the prospect of a two day extravaganza.

It was an early start as I set off from Norfolk to Suffolk in the beautiful early morning sunshine. I met with Liz and her bridesmaid and Mum in the hairdressers. The mood was very jovial as Liz sat in her curlers under the dryer.

The ceremony took place at st Andrews church, Melton. Arriving in style, Liz pulled up in a bright red, E Type Jaguar, roof down. Dad looked very proud to be driving his beautiful daughter.

The service was led by long standing friends and husband and wife team, Mark and Claire. Lizzie and Will received a beautiful peacock butterfly as an unusual surprise gift. It came to rest right on the register in front of us. Sticking around just long enough for a photograph.

When I first visited the reception venue, I was blown away by its beauty. It was the magnificent Helmingham Hall, Suffolk. This grand, moated house sits in archers of deer park and formal gardens. A photographers dream.

Cruising in the jag, the newly married couple headed up the long, tree lined drive way, towards the house, where family and friends were eagerly waiting to greet them, with handfuls of rose petals and confetti.

Pimms and canapes were served in the beautiful gardens, whilst guests were serenaded by a solo guitarist.

Soaking up the early evening sun, I spent golden hour with Liz and Will. They kissed and held hands as we wandered through the late summer flowers and gourde tunnel. We headed back to the hall just as sun was setting over the deer park. We watched the deer playing in the rays of light streaming through the trees. Simply magical.

The evening celebrations went on well into the night. I joined the happy couple for a spot of  Irish Ceilidh dancing before heading back to Norwich to get ready for day two of Liz and Wills celebrations.

DAY TWO

The next day, I spent a very relaxing afternoon on Aldeburgh beach. Liz and Will, still in full wedding grar, invited friends and family to join them for a fish and chip lunch on the pebbly beach. Liz and Will posed for a few photos on the seashell sculpture. Even taking their shoes off for a little paddle in the sea. Then all of us tucked into fish and chips out of the paper, as it should be. People stopped and took a double take, but Liz and Will were oblivious, absorbed in their happiness.

As a wedding photographer, I get to see some pretty amazing weddings. This stunning wedding was no exception. portofino italy wedding photography

I first met with Jo and Paul at their home in Norfolk. Cup of tea in hand and their mischievous cat on my lap, I began to hear about Jo and Paul’s grand wedding plans. The destination for this perfect wedding was to be, no less than, the Italian Riviera. Portofino to be precise.

High above the port of Portofino, looking out over the multi million pound yachts and cars, sits A villa called Castello Brown. Cleverly crafted into the  hillside above the port, this place boasts the most spectacular views of the mediterranean sea and beyond.

The night before the wedding, I got to meet all the family and friends over, what else, pizza! The excitement filled the air as we and chatted into the night. It was an early night for me. I wanted to fresh for the big day ahead.

On the morning of the wedding,I woke up early . My hotel was right on the beach, so, before my breakfast, I went for a quick swim with the locals. A great way to start the day.

The temperature was already rising and it wasn’t even 10am. I took a short drive to the venue, and met with the family at the port. After a quick drink in the hot sun, we started the steep climb to Castello Brown. Many stairs later, and there it was…THE most beautiful wedding location to date.

The bridal party were very calm as they got ready for the day. Jo had thought of everything. Each and every detail was classic and beautiful. When I first saw her dress, I think a tear came to my eye. Low cut back with an italian lace infill. I couldn’t wait to see her with it on.

In the courtyard, preparations had been made for the ceremony. Paul was waiting, nervous and excited for his bride to meet him at the alter. Lead by her bridesmaids and flower girl, arm in arm with her proud dad, Jo arrived. A vision of perfection indeed.

The ceremony over and the celebrations begin. Plenty of food and wine was consumed, and everyone partied well into the night. A perfect celebration of a wonderful couple. Congratulations Jo & Paul and thank you for choosing me to photograph your wedding.

Thanks also to infinity wedding planners . Barbara, you made me feel most welcome, I hope to shoot alongside you again soon. portofino italy wedding photography

Baby photography

Baby photography is something I have always enjoyed. My two were and still are always being snapped.

Today I took a drive to Summer Love Studios in Kings Lynn, home of Johanna Garlike Photography. We had a day of training with Aspire trainer, Kay Young. It was all about babies!

I was determined to keep my broodiness down to a minimum, no more babies please. Then the Mummies, Anna and Heidi arrived with their new born bundles of joy, Lexi (below) And Phoebie.  I was feeling the tingle immediately.

We set about getting the babies to drift off into a peaceful sleep so that they could be photographed. Here are a couple to show you just how cute they were. This is Lexi.

Jo & Paul- Castello Brown Portofino Wedding

This weekend I was photographing a wedding at Castello Brown in Portofino, Northern Italy.

I have been to some truly amazing places in the world.  I have seen some mind blowing sights, but Nestled in the mountains over looking the luxury port of  Portofino, sits Castello Brown. This ancient castle was the setting the magical marriage between Jo and Paul.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Barbara Calo and her team from Infinity Weddings and Events . Barbara is a wedding and events planner based in Tuscany. I look forward to working with her again in the near future. Castello brown Portofino wedding.

Photography, to me, is sometimes not just about the stunning locations, but equally about the people I meet, and this weekend in Portofino was no exception.

This is one of my favorite photos from the day, many more to come.
